One county, two time zones
Gulf County is one of the few Florida counties split by the time-zone line. Port St. Joe and the coast are on Eastern Time. Wewahitchka and the north end of the county are on Central Time, one hour behind.
That matters when you book. An 8 AM appointment in Wewahitchka is 9 AM in Port St. Joe. When we schedule a visit, we'll confirm the time on your clock so nobody waits an hour in the driveway.
Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 6 PM Eastern.
Coast roofs and river roofs
Gulf County roofs fall into two broad groups, and each needs its own attention.
On the coast. Homes in Port St. Joe, Cape San Blas, St. Joe Beach, and Indian Pass sit close to St. Joseph Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Salt air, blowing sand, and open exposure are hard on fasteners, edge metal, and flashing. We pay close attention to how a system is fastened and how the edges and penetrations are sealed.
Inland. Around Wewahitchka, the Dead Lakes, and the river side of the county, salt matters less. Humidity, shade, and pine and oak debris in valleys and gutters matter more, and they can hold moisture against a roof longer than you'd expect. Keeping water moving off the roof and out of the gutters is a big part of the job.
Gulf County sets one wind zone for the whole county
Some counties draw several wind-speed lines across their maps. Gulf County doesn't.
-
Gulf County is not in Florida's High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, which applies only to Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
-
The county has adopted the 2023 Florida Building Code (8th Edition). Its building ordinance establishes one uniform wind zone for Gulf County, and the county building department's permit paperwork lists it as a 140 mph wind zone. See the Gulf County Building Department.
In plain terms: a re-roof in Wewahitchka and a re-roof in Port St. Joe are built to the same county wind requirement. What changes between them is salt, exposure, and the condition of the house. We build the deck nailing, underlayment, and flashing to the code for your address and spell it out in your written scope.

Emergency tarps. If a roof is letting water in, we install emergency tarps to help keep the inside dry until a repair or replacement is scheduled. We answer the phone after hours.
Every job starts with a free estimate at your home.
Who issues the roofing permit
We pull the roofing permit through the office that covers your address:
-
Unincorporated Gulf County, including Cape San Blas, St. Joe Beach, and Indian Pass: Gulf County Building Department, 1000 Cecil G. Costin Sr. Blvd, Room 400, Port St. Joe.
-
City of Port St. Joe: City of Port St. Joe Building Department, 1002 10th St, Port St. Joe.
-
City of Wewahitchka: permits are issued by the Gulf County Building Department. For property inside the city, the county's application asks for a letter of approval from the Wewahitchka city manager, and we take care of that step.
Our Florida license, CCC1336010, is a state certification. When a city also asks contractors to register locally, we complete it before we apply for your permit.
How a Gulf County estimate works
-
Call, text, or book online. Tell us where the house is and what the roof is doing.
-
We set a time on your clock. Eastern for Port St. Joe and the coast, Central for Wewahitchka.
-
We come to the house. We look at the roof surface, flashing, edges, and gutters, and at what the coast or the trees are doing to them.
-
You get a written scope. It lists the materials, the deck and underlayment work, and the permit we'll pull. There's no pressure.
-
You decide. If a repair is the better call, we'll tell you.
Questions Gulf County homeowners ask
Do you come out to Wewahitchka?
Yes. Wewahitchka is on Central Time, and we schedule with that in mind.
Do you go to Cape San Blas?
Yes. Cape San Blas is in unincorporated Gulf County, so the permit goes through the Gulf County Building Department.
Do you work in Mexico Beach?
Yes. Mexico Beach is just over the county line in Bay County. See our Bay County roofing page.
Can you repair part of a roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the rest of the roof is sound, a section repair can make sense. We'll tell you honestly what we see.
